5) Adidas Adizero Boston 6
Good road running shoe, Knit mesh upper, Continental rubber outsole. If you like your running shoes lightweight, the Adidas Adizero Boston 6 manage to deliver without sacrificing stability and support. The knit mesh upper in particular gives you breathability but also helps to shed the excess pounds. If you’re more about short and fast runs, we found the Adizero Boston 6 fantastic for style bursts, especially thanks to the extra surface grip provided by the Continental rubber outsoles. The outsoles are supposed to deliver more traction in both wet and dry conditions, While the Adizero are light in weight, there’s still a lot of cushioning, which is used for Adidas’ Boost tech, which is meant to deliver some extra energy return with each stride. Good Stability running shoe, Mesh upper, Asics Fluidride midsole. The Asics GT-2000 5 are a great all-round stability trainer running shoe with fantastic breathability. The redesigned mesh top breathes just as good as any of the other shoes. The gel cushioning combined with the outer plastic exoskeleton around the heel offers excellent overall support and stability for road runners. Coupled with a Fluidride midsole the shoe feels suitably springy and makes it easy to keep a solid light running rhythm, despite the GT-2000’s slightly chunky 310g weight. The only downside is that the 10mm drop will be a little high for people with shallow feet, and the shoes take a little while to break in.

2) Asics Dynaflyte
Another great choice here, the FlyteFoam midsole provides plentiful cushioning that doesn’t lose its shape no matter how long you’re on the road for, in a shoe that comes in under 300g on the scales. The result is a very comfortable neutral shoe that can be worn for any distance, and one that will allow you to set new PBs over longer runs due to its lightweight design. The trade-off in any running shoe is weight vs cushioning: every bit of extra support ends up adding bulk. The goal for every running shoe manufacturer is to create the perfect blend of materials and technology which can provide maximum support for long runs with a minimum of weight – and for now at least, the Asics DynaFlyte has slightly got the advantage although Nike flyKnit is definitely ups there too.

1) Nike LunarEpic Low Flyknit 2 / Explorer
The LunarEpic has a fantastic series of choices with many styles and options the greatest strength is its versatility. It’s fit for every kind on running. The snug, sock-like upper makes the shoe a treat to pull on. The fit is literally like no other. The LunarEpic Flyknit 2 series ( pictured above is the Explorer option ) is pitched as a comfortable shoe for long runs, which it undoubtedly is, but at a mere 249g it’s also lightweight enough to pick up the pace in races from 5K and up. It’s not quite speedy enough for the track, but it will fulfil all your other training needs, and it’s good-looking enough to wear with your civvies. It cools your feet down when running with its Knit mesh feel directing air around your feet and it does feel like walking / running on the clouds. Also if you struggle with bad knees from running a lot it does a great job over others at limiting the impact on knees and joints this is definitely our choice for the no1 spot.
